Attention for your first “baby”
Many people have pets before they add human babies to their families. And usually, when the postpartum period comes, the beloved family pet may feel a little neglected. It makes sense that during this time of bonding with your new addition, focusing on self-healing, and figuring out which thing you have time for - shower, nap, or food, that some things will get less attention.
I recently discovered Sniffspot.com - it’s like Airbnb for dogs. People rent out their yards to dog owners to have private off-leash playtime. Many people have had negative experiences at public dog parks so this is an alternative. Since you don’t have to be constantly vigilant in this private space for just you and your first baby, it can be a good time to get into nature and reconnect with your pup(s).
If you’re in the NYC Metro area, book some time at my spot - Yonkers Sniffspot
While Sniffspots don’t replace normal potty breaks and daily walks, it’s another option for your postpartum as you consider the needs of everyone in your home. I’ve had guests with reactive dogs; with no backyard; with their own backyard who wanted to give their dog variety and different smells, and even guests who were travelling through the area and didn’t want to take the risk at a local dog park.
Dogs enjoy mental and physical stimulation. Humans feel good as your dog has a new experience they will love.
